Human Resource Generalist

The Company:

Storage Express is an owner/operator of self-storage facilities.   Our 60-person company works together to develop and manage properties in communities across the Midwest.  Today, we have over 90 locations in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio.  Our Bloomington office serves as the hub for our property management, leasing, collections, accounting and construction activities.  Storage Express relies on innovative technology to enable the profitable remote operation of our properties.


The HR Generalist position will support our managers with job postings, applicant tracking and correspondence, and other hiring related tasks.  The person in this role will administer payroll, our health insurance and ancillary insurance programs, and our retirement program. This role requires dependability, organization skills and a detail-oriented work ethic. The HR Generalist will participate in various functions of human resources to find, select, hire, and retain the best talent. The ideal candidate will play a key role in the success of our employees and the company.

Essential job duties:

  • Update and maintain our job descriptions.
  • Management and maintenance of job postings.
  • Applicant tracking and correspondence.
  • Conduct reference checks, and process pre-hire background checks.
  • Work with our hiring managers to schedule interviews.
  • Assist our managers with their performance reviews tracking.
  • Lead our new employee onboarding and orientation efforts.
  • Payroll and benefit administration.
  • Refine and implement our personnel policies and procedures.
  • Manage our paid time off policies, FMLA and other leave.
  • HR recordkeeping, and the associated administrative paperwork. 


The ideal person for this position will possess the following:

  • An Associates or Bachelor's Degree.  A college students pursuing a degree in HR will be considered.
  • Experience working in an office HR environment.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Familiarity with employment law of Indiana.
